Myth masks

We spent quite a few weeks last term working on making myth masks in small groups. We had to be able to work in a group with other people which some people found very difficult at first,l but everyone got much better at it the more we did.

First we had to draw some designs for the masks.

Then we started to draw out the masks and stick cardboard, bubble wrap and rolled up newspaper on them - do you think they look good?

Then we built up papier mache ...

... we painted them ...

... and then used darker colours of paint to make them look better.

Last we used things like feathers, wool, fur and even goats' hair to  add decoration to them.

Here are the finished masks. We're going to use them in drama next term.

Do you know who they all are?

Christmas reindeer

Merry Christmas from class 3/4.

We hope you like our Christmas reindeer.

We had fun making them!

They helped us write the instructions for making them so that other teachers can make them too.

They all gathered together - we think they were having their Christmas party.

Merry Christmas!

End of term

It was just a 2 day week for the last week of term, but we still managed to pack a lot in.

We wrote instructions for making our Christmas reindeer - there will be another post all about the reindeer soon.

We held the medal ceremony for the class Olympics. Here are some of the class with their certificates and medals. Everyone was very sporting while taking part in the Olympic events, watching the finals and during the medal ceremony.

We did a review of our topic - Ancient Greece.

At the start of the topic we wrote down all the things we knew about Ancient Greece - it wasn't very many!

This week we wrote down only some of the things we knew about Ancient Greece now - we filled the board!

Do you think we learned a lot?

We made some pompom creatures.

On the last afternoon half the classs went swimming and got to play on the inflatables. The other half of the class went to PE. Mrs MacNab set a very hard challenge - they had to get the giant ball from one end of the room to the other without it touching the floor - and it wasn't allowed to touch anyone's hand either! At first they said it was far too difficult, but after they stopped shouting ideas and started working as a team and listening to other people's ideas they managed it. They were very proud and Mrs MacNab was very pleased.

It's Christmas ...

We've been having lots of Christmas fun this week.

We've been healthy - we got some exercise and practised our co-ordination by dancing along with 'dancing Santa'.

We played some health games and we played in P3's healthy cafe. We were really happy they let us play there - it's fun. We served lots of healthy food.

In maths we had to estimate how many P4s would be the same length as an adult bottlenose dolphin. It took 3 P4s lying down to be the same length. We looked on P1's blog to find out how many P1s were the same length as a leatherback turtle. Two P1s were the same length as a turtle.

We decided to see how much a dolphin weighed. We couldn't weigh a real dolphin, but Rainbow, our toy dolphin (which we got because we are adopting Rainbow from the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society) has now arrived at Glaitness so we found out how many pens it took to balance the scales. One group then tried weighing a full water bottle. It was very difficult!

We practised our times tables by playing games. Do you think we enjoyed it?

Here is our Christmas maths grid.

We completed our class Olympics.

Here is the mini marathon.

The markers had to count how many laps their runner did. Some people used tally marks.

We had the long jump final too. Everyone helped people to remember where your feet had to start.

Bend the knees and use your arms!

We finished the javelin final too. Ewan's throw went so high up the wall that we had to use lots of different maths to work out how far it had gone and not just a measuring tape. We had to estimate how many bricks up it had hit, and measure one brick and then multiply to find out how high it had hit.

We're looking forward to the medal ceremony next week.

Here we are having some quiet time in the library.

In ICT we could choose to play a game or look at our class blog or another class blog.

We had our Christmas service in the Cathedral. Here we are rehearsing there in the afternoon. Mrs MacNab said we sang really well in front of all the parents in the evening, and the readers did very well too. They were very scared but they read clearly and fluently. Well done everyone!

Back in school we made Christmas cards. We used our painting with light Christmas pictures.

Do you like the cards?

On Friday afternoon we had our Christmas party with class 3. Some of the Mums came and helped. They served us jelly and ice cream and juice and we were very happy that they helped us. Thank you, Mrs Kemp and Mrs Smith.

We had lots of fun at the party. We danced and played games.

Mrs MacNab got her hair done specially for the party.
Do you like it?
