Sports Day - take 2

Friday afternoon was our 2nd attempt at Sports Day, after it was rained off last week. It was a bit too cold to have a picnic lunch outside, so we had it in the classroom instead, then went over to Picky for the races.

There was a cold wind, but the rain stayed off and we kept fairly warm as we were racing. We think our Mums and Dads might have been a bit cold watching us though!

How would you show your support for your team?

We took part in lots of races, earning points for our houses.

It was very close and all came down to the last race -  the relay.

We went over to the side of the track to shout for our teams.

Then the trophies were presented to the house captains of the winning team - Corse.

Well done everyone - everyone in P3/4 was very sporting and tried their best all of the time.

Sports Day

We had a fun morning of activites over at Picky. The races in the afternoon had to be postponed because of the rain - they'll be held next Friday afternoon instead.

In the morning we went out onto the track first. We did a relay race with some unusual batons to pass!

After that, we went inside to play parachute games. It was great!

 We also did other games and played Westray dodgeball.

We're hoping for dry weather for next week.

Biodiversity and babies

As always, it's been a busy week.

In maths we're using money to solve problems and in real-life situations - like planning fictional parties.

In health we've been thinking about how we grow and change, and the different things we can do as we get older.

We spent some time discussing things that newborn babies can do, things that 10 month old babies can do, 3 year olds and what we can do now. We're also thinking about things we'll be able to do when we're older - like drive a car and vote in an election.

Mrs Wolanska brought Jan in to visit us. We were able to check whether we were correct about the things a newborn baby could do, as Jan is just 3 weeks old. Here he is with his Mum and proud big sisters.

It was sunny on Thursday, so we were able to do Show and Tell outside again. Sometimes the traffic was noisy, but everyone has got much more confident at speaking in front of an audience so we were able to hear everyone clearly.

We're still working on biodiversity. Now we're making PowerPoint slideshows about the biodiversity you find around Orkney's coasts. We're hoping to put them on the blog when they're finished and to show them to parents at the class assembly.

We're still working on the props for the class assembly - we have to work together to make things. We had our first full rehersal this week too.

Here we are in music, writing the music for our lifeboat song.

We're practising for sports day when we get the chance. The 3 legged race is hard!

Week 7 - jellyfish and money

We love playing with technic lego in Golden Time. We create lots of different models and machines.

Some people enjoy doing craft in Golden Time. Can you guess what we're making?

We'll put photos on the blog of these when they're finished!

In maths we're still working on money. We're learning about the different coins and notes.

We're practising working out change.

We practise buying things and giving change in the smoothie shop or the P3 and P3/4 shop.

P4 have been problem solving with money. Some of us are very proud of how we did!

We're busy preparing for our class assembly. We've been researching lifeboats ...

... and building our own one.

Mrs MacNab has been really enjoying 'Coastal Show and Tell'. We've had some great things in - like these giant mermaid's purses...

... and Hector the hermit crab!

It's nearly time for the school sports day - so we've been practising. This is our trials for the relay race.

We're hoping we get good weather for sports day.
