Week 4 - almost half way through the term ....

We've been working hard again this week. We've been learning about Greek temples and Greek theatres. We learned that the words alphabet and theatre come from the Greek language. Here we are designing a Greek temple on the SmartBoard. We were pleased with the finished temple - it looked really good.

In Drama we were playing a game - you had to show your emotions by walking with no speaking and the other people in your team had to guess to win the card. We really enjoyed it.

This is us peer assessing the myths we have been working on. We are trying to help everyone make theirs as good as possible - and peer assessing helps us to learn what good work is and how to improve our own work as well.

Our spelling strategy of the week is writing our words in alphabetical order. If we are good at that, we can write them out in reverse alphabetical order so the word that's last in the alphabet goes first.

In music we were doing experiments with the instruments we made. It was a scientist from Ancient Greece who discovered that the noise strings make changes when it is a different length or tighter. There is a Greek instrument called a bouzouki - we don't have one, but Frank let us look at his mandola which is a bit similar.

In PE we are doing dance with Mrs Cromarty. We were working on celebration dances in groups. With Mrs MacNab we are practising for our class Olympics.  This week we worked on standing long jump and running games.

Here we are helping each other with long jump - and reminding each other to bend our knees and use our arms.

We enjoy the dictionary challenge game.

We often use whiteboards to work on.

We were really pleased when one of our class got a Head Teacher's Award for a really good piece of work he did at home. Mrs Bleakley said he had brightened up her day.

Our Tourist Office

We've been making progress with our class tourist office. It's been set up, although it's not quite finished yet.

Do you like puffin corner?

This is P4 making brochures about transport to and transport in Orkney. P3 made posters.

We used the computers for designing covers for our topic jotters. We used WordArt to make them. They were really colourful.

We also used the computers to do research about transport for the brochures and posters we made.

Next week we're going on 2 trips, to see some accomodation that tourists stay in. We're going to visit a hotel and the campsite and we're really looking forward to it. We've started making questionnaires so we can find out lots of information while we're there. We hope it doesn't rain on those days!

Week 4 - ICT and more

That's the first 4 weeks of term over already! We've had a very busy week again, and we didn't take as many photos this week.

We got the laptops out in ICT this week. Mr Geddes came and helped us. We enjoyed looking at the Visit Orkney website. We found lots of information about transport to Orkney on it.

This is us using laptops to research information about transport for the posters and brochures we are making about travelling to Orkney and transport in Orkney.

We used brochures and leaflets to get information from as well.

The Glaitness Green Swans is a new eco and health group. Our class has 2 reps on the group. The Glaitness Green Swans are having a competition to design a new logo for the group - we all entered it.

When we are practising our tables in maths we enjoy trying to get a new best time using the loop cards.

One group made a game to help practise our tables.

In Golden Time some people enjoy playing chess ...

... others were finishing the baby turtles they started making last week ...

... and some chose to practise their times tables.

A lot of us found RME difficult this week because Mrs MacNab asked lots of questions that made us think a bit more about the story. We enjoyed using Daniel in the Lions' Den in Drama though. Next week we're doing some role play in Drama, and we're looking forward to ICT and Maths again.
